YOUNG SCIENTISTS PROGRAM

ICP 2008 will feature a Young Scientists Program as part of its scientific program. The main goals of the Young Scientists Program are to enhance communication between young scientists from different countries and diverse cultural backgrounds, to promote exchange of knowledge between senior and younger scientists, and to help younger scientists to acquire new insights into special areas of psychology and into psychology at large.

Eligibility
We invite young scientists from all parts of the world to apply for participation in the Young Scientists Program. For the purpose of the program, „young scientists“ are defined as persons under the age of 35 who have already obtained their Ph.D. degrees and have been very active in any area of psychology. Participation in the Young Scientists Program is by invitation only. Persons wishing to participate in the program are asked to submit

1. an application letter along with a brief summary of their past and present research (250 to 350 words)
2. their CV with a list of publications
3. a PhD certificate
4. a title for a poster

to be presented at the Networking Market. To be eligible for participation in the Young Scientists Program, applicants must have registered for the congress and have a paper submitted for presentation.
All applications undergo a review process because the Young Scientists Program can accommodate only a limited number of participants. The final deadline for applications is 31 October 2007. Earlier applications are welcome. Please send the application by email to .

Activities
Activities in the Young Scientists Program are fully integrated with the scientific program of ICP 2008. Specifically, activities include

1. sessions with eminent senior scientists “Meet your favorite scholar”
2. a roundtable discussion “Developing an academic career in a globalized world”
3. a Networking Market

where young scientists present their research areas and findings in poster presentations. In addition, there will be ample opportunities to meet other young scientists in an informal atmosphere.
The meetings with eminent scholars provide an unique opportunity to learn from the experiences of highly acknowledged scientists in psychology. Eminent scholars will talk about their visions on doing research, important insights gathered over the year, or a difficult question that keeps them busy at the moment.

Roundtable Discussion
The roundtable discussion will address pressing issues on career opportunities as a psychologist. Panelists will include scientists from diverse research settings from all over the world.

Networking Market
The Networking Market provides the opportunity to exchange ideas and to build up longer-term networks among the participating young scientists. To facilitate
communication around specific topics, participants present a poster that summarizes their research area and research questions. This networking market goes beyond more traditional poster sessions as participants present
their specific approaches to their broader research questions – and not just one specific study.
