Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception

The presidents of the International Union of Psychological Science, the German Federation of Psychologists’ Associations and of ICP 2008 will be pleased to welcome you to Berlin. The Brass Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Beatbox Crew Oralic Soundmachines together with Breakdancers and BMX bike artists will introduce you to the diverse cultural and artistic landscape of the German capital.

The official opening will be followed by a welcome reception in the foyers of the ICC Berlin with drinks and refreshments. A great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones at the onset of the congress.

Social Evening hosted by the German Federation of Psychologists' Associations

A social evening will be hosted by the German Federation of Psychologists' Associations, which consists of the German Psychological Society and the Association of German Professional Psychologists.

The social evening will take place on 23 July at the Palais am Funkturm which is located next to the congress venue ICC Berlin. The Palais am Funkturm is the
largest and perhaps the most charming ballroom in Berlin. Here you can be transported back in time to the 1950s and 60s with the sweeping forms, stylish
decor and large terrace completed with fountains.

Enjoy wonderful dining and wining together with your colleagues in an extraordinary atmosphere. The welcome drink and the musical entertainment “Echte Ärzte” are kindly provided by Hogrefe Publishing House.

Entrance fee:
Ticket purchase by 9 July, 2008: EUR 30 per person
Ticket purchase after 9 July, 2008: EUR 40 per person
EUR 25 per person from countries eligible for fee reduction

The entrance fee includes a glass of sparkling wine during the reception and an international buffet dinner. Additional beverages are available for purchase on a self-payment basis.

Online booking is now available on a first come, first served basis. Please make sure to purchase your ticket by 9 July 2008 in order to benefit from the lower price.
We advise you to purchase your ticket well in advance since only a small number of tickets will be available on-site at the congress counter.

Hand-over ceremony for the next XXX ICP

The International Congress of Psychology travels the world. The Congress is pleased to invite delegates and accompanying persons to a SOUTH AFRICAN CULTURAL EXTRAVAGANZA, where the baton will be passed on to the next XXX International Congress of Psychology to be held in Cape Town 22 – 27 July 2012. This Hand-Over Ceremony will be held on Thursday, 24 July at 18.45 h in the Main Lobby, and will be followed by a reception.

The hand-over ceremony on Thursday evening will be the last official event of ICP 2008. There will not be a formal Closing Ceremony.

Congress Party

ICP 2008 will organize a party with live music and DJs at an arts and community center in a vivid Berlin neighborhood. The party will not only give scientists of all ages and experiences an opportunity to make contact with future colleagues and collaborators in a casual atmosphere but will also serve as a starting point for exploring the Berlin night life.
The regular entrance fee is EUR 8 and includes a welcome drink. Students, doctoral students, and participants eligible for a reduced congress registration fee pay a reduced admission of EUR 4. Tickets can be purchased
at the entrance. Pre-registration is not necessary.

Jewish Berlin

By bus you will be taken to “Spandauer Vorstadt”, an area of central Berlin dominated by the golden dome of the New Synagogue. Your guide will take you on a walking tour of this quarter which has become one of the focal points of Jewish life in Berlin. Afterwards the bus will take you to one of the most fascinating museums in Berlin, in the trendy district of Kreuzberg – the Jewish Museum. The building is a spectacular highlight of modern architecture in Berlin and was designed by the famous architect Daniel Libeskind. The museum provides an interesting insight into the history of the Jewish people.

Controversial Berlin

What comes to mind first when you think of Berlin? Most people associate the city with its cold war past and its “island” status and find that part of Berlin’s history the most intriguing one. On this tour your guide will take you back in time and show you the most famous sites, such as the museum at Checkpoint Charlie, the famous border crossing where in 1961 the world feared a third world war when American and Sowjet tanks stood facing each other. Even though today it is hard even to tell where the wall used to run, a lot of the aftermath of Berlin’s separation is still noticeable.
