Opening Ceremony
On Sunday, 20 July at 18.00 h, ICP 2008 will start with an Opening Ceremony in Hall 1 of the ICC Berlin. The presidents of the International Union of Psychological Science, the German Federation of Psychologists Associations and of ICP 2008 will be pleased to welcome you to Berlin. The Brass Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Beatbox Crew Oralic Soundmachines together with Breakdancers and BMX bike artists will introduce you to the diverse cultural and artistic landscape of the German capital. The official opening will be followed by a welcome reception in the foyers of the ICC Berlin with drinks and refreshments. A great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones at the onset of the congress.

Pre-Congress Workshops
On Sunday, 20 July, ICP 2008 offers several Pre-Congress Workshops. The workshops cover a wide range of issues such as therapy of posttraumatic stress disorder, e-learning, fMRI, and analyzing multimethod data. For the full list of workshops and their conveners as well as for registration information, please visit www.icp2008.org. Several workshops will be registered for the APA continuous education program.

The maximum number of participants for the workshops is strictly limited. However, some workshops are still available. Registration will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Social Evening hosted by the German Federation of Psychologists Associations
The German Federation of Psychologists Associations (DGPs and BDP) has arranged for a social evening dinner on Wednesday, 23 July 2008, and will be happy to welcome you at the Palais am Funkturm (Hammarskjöldplatz, 14055 Berlin) at 20.00 h, for a buffet dinner and an entertainment program. The Palais am Funkturm is in close proximity to the congress center.

Admission: EUR 30 regular price per person, EUR 25 reduced price per person.

Paul-B.-Baltes Lecture and Dogan Prize
The annual Paul-B.-Baltes Lecture is a major event in German psychology. The speaker of the Paul-B.-Baltes lecture is selected by all five psychology departments in Berlin and Potsdam (Freie Universitaet, Humboldt University, Technical University, University of Potsdam, and Max-Planck-Institute for Human Development), and honors the late Paul B. Baltes, director at the Max-Planck-Institute for Human Development in Berlin, a pioneer and worldwide leader in lifespan psychology and research on human aging. In 2008, the Paul-B.-Baltes Lecture is presented as a specially featured event at the XXIX International Congress of Psychology.

The 2008 Baltes Lecture is presented by Prof. Michael I. Posner, University of Oregon. His lecture is entitled "Executive attention: Its origins, development, and functions". You are cordially invited to attend this unique event on Tuesday, 22 July, 10.15 h, Hall 3.

Michael I. Posner is also this year’s laureate of the Mattei Dogan Foundation Prize. The Dogan Prize in Psychological Science was established in 2006 by the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) under the generous auspices of the Mattei Dogan Foundation.
The Prize honors a contribution that represents a major advancement in psychology by a scholar or a team of scholars of high international reputation. The Prize is awarded for the first time on the occasion of the XXIX International Congress of Psychology, Berlin, July 2008.

The award ceremony will take place during the Opening Ceremony on Sunday, 20 July 20, 18.00 h, Hall 1.
