PSYCHOLOGY IN BERLIN AND POTSDAM AND SCIENTIFIC VISITS 

On-site interactive exhibition “Psychology in Berlin and Potsdam”
During the congress, there will be a permanent exhibition area devoted to “Psychology in Berlin and Potsdam” featuring an integrative presentation of the following psychology institutions:

Each institution will be presented in a brochure which is available for visitors. The exhibition area will be subdivided in thematic sections presenting collaborations between the five institutions in various fields such as (neuro-) cognitive psychology, methods and diagnostics, health and developmental psychology, work and educational psychology as well as brain-machine-interfaces. In addition to these demonstrations, there will be computer terminals giving access to various online projects and tests.

The exhibition area will also serve as a starting point and reservation office for scientific visits in and around Berlin. A map will be provided to visualize the various participating psychology institutions and collaborating centers. Two mobile research labs will be featured in the open air section of the congress venue.

Off-site scientific visits
ICP 2008 will take advantage of the rich academic infrastructure in and around Berlin. We will be able to offer a wide range of scientific visits to institutes and research labs. Example visits include:

Psychology and Sanssouci – A trip to Potsdam
Reinhold Kliegl from the University of Potsdam will offer a tour of his Experimental Psychology Lab featuring state-of-the-art eye tracking facilities. Günter Esser from the same university will prepare a visit to the Academy of
Psychotherapy and Intervention Research. The bus for both tours will
leave from the ICC Berlin on Wednesday, 23 July. Each group is limited
to 20 participants. The scientific visits in the morning will be combined with a trip to Sanssouci Castle and other sights of Potsdam in the afternoon. Interested participants are requested to register at the congress counter on-site or send an email to .

Visit of the Charité
Guided tours of the Charité will be offered during the congress. The tours feature clinicalpsychological projects related to psychiatry, psychosomatics, and psychotherapy of childhood and youth (Tuesday, 22 July, afternoon) and of adulthood (Thursday, 24 July, afternoon). On both afternoons, four time slots for the respective visits will be available. On Tuesday afternoon, the group size is limited to 8 persons, on Thursday afternoon a maximum of 12 persons can be accepted.

Freie Universität
Norman Foster’s beautiful new Languages and Literature Library and the Neurocognitive Labs featuring pupillometric, electrodermal and electrophysiological techniques for investigating mental processes.

PSYCHOLOGY-RELATED TOURS

Beyond the regular sightseeing program we offer a number of psychology related activities and opportunities to experience the city of Berlin. We arranged for three psychology-related tours.
Please register for all tours and visits at the exhibition booth „Psychology in Berlin and Potsdam“.

History of Psychology in Berlin Tour
Tuesday, 22 July, afternoon:
This tour will  lead to some inner-city places that have been important in the history of our discipline in Berlin.

The Berlin Wall Tour
Wednesday, 23 July, afternoon:
This tour includes a visit of the Berlin Wall documentation center at Bernauer Strasse plus discussion with psychologists and social scientists who have been working on an on-line participatory dialog to plan the memorial for the Wall (EUR 6 incl. guided tour).

Gay and Lesbian Berlin Tour
Thursday, 24 July, afternoon:
The city has a vivid gay and lesbian community. There will be an opportunity to take part in a guided tour to the Gay Museum (EUR 9) and to meet psychologists working for a gay and lesbian youth counseling service (EUR 3 coffee and cake).

For all of the tours a ticket for public transport is needed. This can be purchased in every public transport station.
